A taste of the exotic in London

Posted on Mon. 07/07/2008 22:00. Categories: United Kingdom | World

Dubbed a "sensory dining journey" on its website, Archipelago restaurant certainly feels a world away from the British capital.

The eatery specialises in exotic fusion dishes so be prepared to taste things you rarely get a chance to elsewhere - from crocodile and peacock to kangaroo and wildebeest.

And the experimental produce does not stop at meaty mains. Dessert lovers, for example, may be perturbed to find chocolate-covered scorpions on their spoons and honeybee decoration!

Despite a carnivorous bias, vegetarians are not entirely neglected at Archipelago, with Caribbean Crop (citrus scented vegetable, cashew and callaloo stir-fry with lime and poppy-seed rice) among the standout greens.

Equally adventurous as the cooking is the restaurant's decor, packed with anthropological assortments including African carvings and contemplative Buddhas to reinforce the travel philosophy.

If the menagerie on your plate whets an appetite, see the live specimens at London Zoo in Regent's Park after.
