Although there are fewer cars in London following the introduction of the congestion charge, it would still seem less likely to see a horse.
But on September 21st more than 100 owners and their horses converge on St John's Hyde Park - to celebrate riding in the city.
The beasts are blessed at St John's Church following a procession led by the local vicar.
Horses line up around the church and Hyde Park Crescent at 12.00 local time for Horseman's Sunday, after which are ride-pasts and rosettes.
On show are horse-drawn carriages and buggies as well as the UK's unusual Shetland ponies, famous for their tiny size.
The ponies, named after a group of islands in the north-east of Scotland, measure 28 inches to an official maximum height of 42 inches.
Shetlands have heavy coats, short legs, are considered quite intelligent and were used for work purposes.
They are thought to be smaller than other ponies in order to cope with the harsh weather conditions on their native islands.
