Discover the true meaning of a ceilidh by joining in the music and dancing at Cork Folk Festival.

Pipe bands, fiddlers, accordionists, banjo players and masters of the bodhran – an Irish framed drum – are set to play out from October 2nd to 5th.

There will be solo singing in the traditional sean nos style and tunes in bluegrass style, where each instrument takes on a melody one by one.

In total 34 acts will take to 22 stages consisting of 280 musicians and 5,000 dancers.

Highlights include Ireland's Frankie Gavin and Mairtin O'Connor at St FinnBarr's Cathedral.

Also West Kerry group Beal Tuinne will play alongside Salsa Celtica, an 11-piece band from Edinburgh.

Other musicians performing come from Canada, Brittany and the autonomous area of Spain, Galicia.

Some of the ceilidhs will take place in the open air and lectures will also take place for those who want to learn more about this great Irish tradition.
