Celebrate the LBD

May is the last chance to catch an exhibition about one of the most timeless fashion pieces in modern history.

The little black dress (LBD) was made famous by Coco Chanel in the 1920s and has since been favoured by celebrities the world-over.

Brighton Museum is celebrating this iconic piece of clothing with an exhibition featuring LBDs by prestigious international designers and those worn by stars throughout the ages.

From Victoria Beckham's Julien MacDonald creation, worn by the singer in That Extra Half Inch, to Ben de Lisi's red carpet dress worn by actress Kate Winslet, a host of beautiful pieces are displayed here.

Other designers represented from the high street to high fashion include Anouska Hempel, John Rocha, Nicole Farhi, Giles Deacon and Zandra Rhodes.

Once through the exhibition, visitors are likely to echo the immortal words of Wallis Simpson, who once said: "When the little black dress is right, there is nothing else to wear in its place."

Star of 27 Dresses Katherine Heigl sported a trendy LBD at a photocall for her new film in Paris earlier this year.
