Boasting sophisticated elegance in a laid-back atmosphere, the 19th century Royal Spa in Budapest narrowly escaped demolition in the 1980s and the dilapidated site was thankfully restored to its former glory.
Situated in the five-star Corinthia Grand Royal Hotel, the spa offers all the luxury one might expect, with a 15-metre swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzis, relaxation areas and a fitness centre. In addition, the prestigious resort has facilities for tropical rain showers, mud baths and a number of therapeutic and massage treatments.
Reserved for over-16s, the tranquil setting is enhanced by sumptuous decoration and friendly, attentive staff and prices are fairly reasonable for such opulent surroundings.
Located on Erzsebet Boulevard in the heart of Budapest, the spa is easily accessible and close to local attractions such as the Opera House, St Stephen's Basilica and the Jewish Quarter.
The 19th century hotel has recently been restored following a 100 million (£74 million) investment and retains several of its original features and architecture.
