Utrecht gets a Hollywood makeover between September and October as movie madness sweeps the city during its annual film festival.

This year the event will open with a screening of Robert Jan Westdijk's In Real Life, with a world premier at Utrecht's Stadsschouwburg.

It tells the story of a young director struggling to make a movie in which his girlfriend plays a leading role.

Another 130 Dutch features, shorts, documentaries and TV dramas will complete the festival programme, which showcases seasoned moviemakers alongside film newcomers.

Most will be competing for 14 prizes - called the Golden Calves - in assorted cinema categories, but there are also numerous retrospectives, special programmes and seminars to enjoy too.

If that doesn't satisfy your silver screen appetite, Utrecht also hosts the biennial Holland Animation Film Festival in November.
