Join runners on a half marathon around some of Budapest's best treasures in September.

Budapest Marathon Organisation is inviting registrations from all over the world on its English and German website.

The race, which increases in price the later you leave registration, takes place on September 7th at 10.00, local time.

For those that can't make the full 21 km hike, there is a 3.5 km fun run that sets off at 10.15, local time.

Competitors go under starter's orders in Hero Square before going over the Chain Bridge to Buda Castle - a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) World Heritage site.

After Buda, it's back over the Danube to Olof Palme promenade in City Park. The event also takes in another Unesco World Heritage site, Andrassy Avenue.

Thousands of runners are expected to take part in the 23rd Nike Budapest International Half marathon this year.

For weary runners Budapest is home to the Szechenvi thermal baths – 22 pools for aching legs and feet.
